What is organic skin care?
We generally define organic skin care as products that contain ingredients grown without pesticides, chemical fertilisers, growth hormones, parabens (preservatives) or antibiotics. When a product is certified organic, it means they’ve been approved by a regulatory body such as the Australian Certified Organic association.
A word of warning, though. Many skincare products are marketed as “natural” but still contain synthetic ingredients alongside a few natural ones. They are also not organic so buyer beware and check the labels.
What are the benefits of organic beauty products?
A lot of what we put on our skin is absorbed into our bodies. When you consider that, why wouldn’t you choose organic skin care products that aren’t harsh, toxic or harmful? Organic skin care also contains more antioxidants and active ingredients than synthetic beauty products.
Other benefits of organic beauty products, like our organic aloe vera, are that the products are non-allergenic and, as they are chemical-free, less likely to cause allergic reactions or irritations. They’re also cruelty-free and help to preserve the environment. A massive win, in our book.
Why choose natural sun care products?
We all know how important it is to be sun safe and use sunscreen, especially in Australia. But all sunscreens are not made equal.
Chemical sunscreens contain chemical filters with active ingredients like avobenzone, octinoxate and oxybenzone. These chemicals absorb UV radiation and convert it to a very low level of heat before releasing them from the body.
Physical sunscreens contain natural minerals like titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, which sit on the surface of the skin and reflect the sun’s rays. With studies finding that chemical sunscreens can be absorbed into your bloodstream, it makes sense to choose natural skin care products that offer sun protection without the nasty chemicals.
We also recommend physical sunscreens if you suffer from sensitive skin or eczema.
