NATUROPATH PROFILE - ANGELA UPTON

Angela Upton

What inspired you to become a naturopath, and how did your journey lead you to Santos Organics?

My grandmother had a neurodegenerative disease, and seeing how little could be offered to her with medicine, I became interested in nutrition and health as a preventative tool, which is how I became a Naturopath. When I moved to Mullumbimby, I loved (and still love) the vibe of Santos Organics. I have been at Santos for 11.5 years now.

What are your credentials, and how long have you been practicing naturopathy?

I have a Bachelor of Naturopathy from SCU. I graduated in 2006, so I have 17 years experience (pretty hard to believe really!).

Which modalities do you use in your practice?

I use nutrition, herbal medicine, bush flower remedies, homoeopathy, pathology/testing, and occasionally various forms of massage. I also recommend other therapies (and practitioners) if I feel they are appropriate.

What areas of naturopathy do you specialise in, and how do you apply your expertise to support well-being?

My particular area of interest is microbiome and gut health, which, as a naturopath, I believe is a key component of good health. I also have an interest in thyroid issues, allergies, and food intolerances.

With all of my patients, we work on diet and digestion to ensure they are getting as much as possible from the foods they are eating.

What holistic approach do you use to promote overall wellness?

I generally do a dietary analysis of all my patients, recommend lifestyle changes (such as mindfulness, exercise, nature time etc.), testing (if appropriate), specific nutrients or herbal formulas depending on what is happening for each patient.
Each treatment plan is tailored to a patient's needs, health goals, and level of motivation, taking in their whole story.
