Why should you consider eco-friendly razors?
They may be small, but disposable razors are a huge environmental problem. Billions are sold each year, then used a handful of times before ending up in a landfill. Although recycled plastic or biodegradable razors are great options, there is a zero-waste, sustainable shaving option. It’s called ‘the safety razor
Yep, these eco-friendly razors are like the ones your grandfather used to use. They’re making a comeback because they’re zero-waste and much more sustainable. They usually make safety razors from high-quality materials like stainless steel or brass and have minimal packaging. Plus, you only need to buy extra removable blades which you can recycle.
How do you use a stainless-steel razor?
If you’ve only ever used a plastic razor, it will take a bit of practice to get used to the stainless-steel razor. They don’t have a movable head, so you need to be careful to shave on the right angle (we recommend at about 30 degrees).
You should shave with the grain to avoid ingrown hairs and take it slow and steady, with short, light strokes.
Don’t forget to rinse your safety razor often to avoid hair getting clogged.
What is the best shaving soap?
As stainless-steel razors don’t have a glide strip, you need to lather up your skin with a good-quality shaving soap. We love Dr Bronner’s organic shaving soaps, which nourish and cleanse the skin while also smelling divine. Choose between Lavender, Peppermint, Tea tree or unscented.
Or you can lather up a hemp shaving stick and use your shaving brush to get an even layer of lubrication over your face, legs or armpits. Whatever you choose, you’re sure to get a great shave, time and time again with your eco-friendly razor.
