Why choose a stainless steel water bottle and eco-friendly coffee cups.

What are the benefits of using a stainless steel water bottle?
As well as being more durable, hygienic and sustainable, choosing a stainless steel bottle is better for your health, too. Although the FDA banned the use of BPA (bisphenol A) in baby bottles in 2012, some plastic drinking bottles, particularly cheaper ones, may still contain it.
But even if a plastic bottle is BPA-free, be aware that studies have shown they can still release harmful chemicals into the water if exposed to heat or left to sit for some time. Some of these are endocrine disruptors that can mess with hormone levels in the body.
Why should we use reusable coffee cups?
Australians love their coffee. But the flip side to this is that we also send a billion disposable coffee cups to landfill every year. That’s one billion coffee cups that are going to sit in landfill for another 1000 years (or end up in our oceans, where marine life mistake them for food, with devastating consequences).
Contrary to popular belief, takeaway coffee cups can’t be recycled either because of their plastic lining. Isn’t it a no-brainer to choose an eco-friendly coffee cup that you can wash and reuse? The planet (and Nemo!) will thank you for it.
How do you wash a stainless steel water bottle?
It’s important to thoroughly clean (and then rinse!) a stainless steel water bottle daily to avoid the build-up of bacteria. One option is to place two tablespoons of white vinegar in the bottle, screw the lid back, and then give the bottle a good shake. Then pour some warm water in and use a bottle brush to give it a clean. Finally, rinse it out with plenty of clean water. Don’t forget to clean the cap as well.
If you don’t like the smell of vinegar, baking soda is another option to clean a stainless steel water bottle. And, if you’re wondering how to clean straws in a drink bottle, using a thin straw brush with white vinegar, baking soda or hot soapy water, works a treat. Just don’t forget to rinse well.
