But even if a plastic bottle is BPA-free, be aware that studies have shown they can still release harmful chemicals into the water if exposed to heat or left to sit for some time. Some of these are endocrine disruptors that can mess with hormone levels in the body.

How do you wash a stainless steel water bottle?

It’s important to thoroughly clean (and then rinse!) a stainless steel water bottle daily to avoid the build-up of bacteria. One option is to place two tablespoons of white vinegar in the bottle, screw the lid back, and then give the bottle a good shake. Then pour some warm water in and use a bottle brush to give it a clean. Finally, rinse it out with plenty of clean water. Don’t forget to clean the cap as well.

If you don’t like the smell of vinegar, baking soda is another option to clean a stainless steel water bottle. And, if you’re wondering how to clean straws in a drink bottle, using a thin straw brush with white vinegar, baking soda or hot soapy water, works a treat. Just don’t forget to rinse well.
