Roseberry Growers

Can you introduce yourself to our Santos Organics Community?

We are Taylor and Julia, partners in life and farming at Roseberry Growers. We are first generation farmers, lovingly growing vegetables, flowers and herbs on our farm in Roseberry Creek, north of Kyogle in the Northern Rivers.

We have been dreaming of our farm for years, and in early 2023 began selling our produce. The learning curve has been steep but we feel so lucky to be working outside, growing food and flowers for our community.

What are you currently growing on your farm?

We grow a large variety of vegetables and a smaller variety of flowers. In particular, we grow a lot of root vegetables - carrots, radishes, turnips, garlic etc. Summer is also bringing with it a lot of cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchinis and eggplants. The summer and autumn flowering dahlias are just starting to show their faces.

Do you have a star crop?

Our winter carrots are next level. The light winter frosts we receive, coupled with our nutrient holding clay soils make for a very special carrot.

Apart from being certified organic, what other alternative methods of farming do you use?

We use regenerative farming practices when it comes to our soil as much as possible. We have done a number of soil tests and become quite nerdy about the chemical aspects of soil health. We are still very much learning but we have very high aspirations for our soil health.

What do you love about farming?

Julia - I love propagating and germinating seeds. The greenhouse is my favourite place. Watching things start to grow from a tiny seed is truly a joy.

Taylor - I love working with and on the land, and having the opportunity to problem solve every single day.

Can you share one of your favourite ways to use something you grow for good health or healthy living?

Grated daikon radish - we love it. We include it every day on our lunch wraps and often have it in our breakfasts with eggs.
