Byron Shire Seeks 31 Actions in 31 Days for Plastic Free July

It’s almost Plastic Free July and our collaborative project Plastic Free Byron is needing our community to get involved. We can also proudly announce that we have been awarded Gold Association because of our commitment to not serve single-use plastic items to our customers.

The Plastic Free Byron Directory

The Plastic Free Byron Directory is the Byron Shires most comprehensive directory of retail and hospitality businesses in the Byron Shire. It shows you who is using what single-use plastic and gives you the opportunity to use your voice to congratulate or encourage further actions to be taken. We are very proud supporters and sponsors of this initiative.

Gold, Silver, Bronze Association

You will find on the directory the businesses that have zero out of six single-use plastic items and they receive Gold Association - that includes us! The six items they don’t have are plastic bags, take-away containers, cutlery, coffee cups or lids, straws, or water bottles. Silver associated businesses don’t serve five out of the six and bronze four out of the six.

Needing Encouragement

The business who serve 3 or more of these single-use items to be the public are not awarded a gold, silver or bronze association - but they can be! And this is where you come in! Encourage these businesses by following the link to their Facebook or Instagram and using your positive words to encourage them to make a change. Tell them what the alternative is and tell them you’d love to see them make the switch!

We Have All The Solutions

We have all the solutions available to us already in the Byron Shire. Several businesses supply retail and hospitality businesses with biodegradable and natural solutions.
