Financial Controller

Role Summary:

We are looking for a Financial Controller (FC) with high energy and diverse experience that is strategy-focused with a hands-on approach. Strong people skills alongside analytical expertise required. Our FC will take a leading role for the finance and IT functions including directing a small finance team to execute initiatives which will continue to drive the organisation to short-term and long-term profitability.

Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will be a leader who can easily communicate effectively to all key stakeholders of the business and have demonstrated expertise in change management and improvement of internal processes. Expected work week is maximum 32 hours.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

The ultimate responsibility for all tasks in this department rests with the Financial Controller, however it is expected that you will delegate certain tasks to those in the finance accounts department, depending on task complexity.

The Financial Controller role includes but is not limited to

  • Provide timely and accurate reporting, analysis and presentations to management and board level
  • Participate and present at board meetings monthly
  • Provide financial forecasting
  • Statutory reporting requirements (e.g.. BAS, FBT, Tax, PAYG, Superannuation Guarantee, ASIC) comply with relevant Acts, legal demands and ethical standards by due dates without material error.
  • Responsible for the appropriate investment of the company's monies and compliance with all government statutory undertakings including but not limited to; GST, FBT, PBI status and payroll tax.
  • Lead and manage internal and external audits
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics, which is used for our Point of Sales (POS), Inventory Management System as well as accounting to ensure best and accurate margins are being achieved.
  • Work with senior management to develop, implement and monitor budgets
  • Mentoring and management of a small finance team
  • Develop best systems/practices to streamline inefficiencies (labour %, GP, margins, etc.) to save time and money
  • Oversee current IT systems; Evaluate and propose recommendations to improve existing systems and processes.
  • Responsible for inventory management including rolling and annual stock takes for EOYF
  • Administer and manage the business's governance, risk and compliance framework
  • Assist GM with management of leases and legal responsibilities

To be successful in this role, you will have the following skills and experience:

  • CA/CPA qualifications preferred
  • Significant experience in a similar role (5+ years)
  • Retail/Grocery experience is preferred
  • Have experience using Microsoft 365 Dynamics.
  • Have FC experience within Not For Profit environment and managed ASIC/ ACNC compliance is helpful
  • Have advanced Excel skills
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Have demonstrated experience leading a small team successfully
  • Experience in a membership association is advantageous
