Organic Sweet Paprika. The origin of paprika dates back 7000 years when it was consumed by the Mexican Indians, however, it was actually a form of chilli being consumed, it is only when Columbus discovered the new world in 1492 that the circumstances were created for the Spanish and Hungarians to create what we now call paprika. The Spanish used paprika in their cuisine for years and while they continued to evolve their unique hybrids, Hungary was breeding milder sweeter strains in their cooler climate since the 17th century. Because these fruits are low in capsaicin (the heat element of chilli) and high in capsanthin (the red pigment aspect) paprika has a vibrant colour but is not spicy. Paprika is used as a seasoning in many dishes, in stews and soups, meats and tagines.
