When we grow more rainforest trees, we see better outcomes for wildlife, climate, people and the planet. This is second nature to Santos Organics, the environmental not-for-profit organisation who for 45 years has been empowering people and communities to live in a healthy and sustainable way.
In September Santos Organics provided the Mullumbimby based Rainforest 4 Foundation with a gift of $1,875 to continue its Rainforest 4 Climate tree planting projects in Northern NSW and the Daintree Rainforest in Far North Queensland. “This was a very welcome boost for our program and helped us to plant another 187 trees,” said Kelvin Davies, Founder of Rainforest 4 Foundation.
Rainforest 4 Foundation is planting trees to restore rainforest cleared in the past. As trees grow, the trees absorb carbon from the atmosphere in a process called bio-sequestration. This helps to mitigate Climate Change.
Clearing of the lowland subtropical rainforests of Northern NSW rainforests began over 150 years ago and today 99% has been destroyed. Now, dozens of species of plants and animals are threatened with extinction.
In the Daintree Lowland Rainforest in Far North Queensland a rural residential development in the 1980’s created over 50 km of roads and this along with clearing for agriculture has created a problem for endangered species like the Southern Cassowary.
Thanks to the support of Santos Organics Rainforest 4 Foundation planted another 100 trees in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest and another 87 trees in Wilson’s Creek in the Byron Shire in Northern NSW.
Thank you to Santos Organics for this wonderful support.
