Organic Wild Rice is a wild, natural food originating from America. This seed was consumed by Indigenous North American Indians who were known for being tall and strong. Wild Rice is actually a type of aquatic grass. First the seeds are harvested, then heat treated and then the husks are stripped away. Leaving a dark coloured seed that has a slightly sweet and bitter flavour.
Wild Rice is a balanced, nutritious and naturally gluten free food source. Wild Rice contains 70% available protein though it is not a complete protein unless combined with a legume, nuts or seeds. It is also a good source of manganese, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, iron, B1 and B3. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, wild rice has a cooling nature that may benefit the kidney and bladder.
Organic Wild Rice is easy to cook or can even be ground into a flour. Wild Rice can be served alongside curries, soups and stews. It is also delicious served with vegetables and herbs or in a salad. It can even be used in sweet recipes such as a grain-free pudding or muffins.
We recommend storing rice well sealed either, in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight or in the fridge (for those in warmer climates).
