Ceres Organics Pumpkin Seed Butter 220g

$11.00

A smooth, earthy spread made from lightly roasted organic pumpkin seeds with a touch of sea salt. Nut free, and more flavour-forward than most seed butters.

Ceres Organics Pumpkin Seed Butter is made from three certified organic ingredients: pumpkin seeds, sunflower oil, and sea salt. The pumpkin seeds are lightly roasted before pressing, which develops their characteristic deep, earthy, slightly savoury flavour. It's a more distinctive taste than sunflower seed or almond butter - richer and more mineral in character, closer to tahini than peanut butter in flavour profile.

The texture is smooth and spreadable straight from the jar. The base oil is certified organic sunflower oil rather than pumpkin seed oil, which gives a cleaner, more neutral mouthfeel while letting the pumpkin seed flavour come through clearly.

Pumpkin seed butter works particularly well in savoury applications - stirred through dressings, swirled into soups, or spread on seedy crackers with a sharp cheese. It also pairs beautifully with strong sweet flavours like dark chocolate, dates, and maple syrup. A useful nut-free option for households with nut allergies, and a genuinely interesting spread for people who have moved past peanut butter and want something more complex.

BioGro certified organic and GE-free by Ceres Organics New Zealand.

How to use it

Pumpkin seed butter lends itself to both sweet and savoury:

  • Toast and bread: spread on sourdough or rye with sliced banana and a drizzle of honey, or with avocado and sea salt for a savoury option
  • Savoury dressings: whisk with tamari, lime juice, garlic, and warm water for a punchy dressing for noodles, roasted vegetables, or grain bowls
  • Soups: stir a tablespoon into pumpkin, carrot, or lentil soup before serving for added body and a earthy depth
  • Dark chocolate pairing: spread onto rice cakes with a square of 70% dark chocolate - the earthy seed flavour and bitter chocolate are a natural match
  • Baking: use in energy balls, raw slices, and cookies as a nut-free binder with a distinctive flavour
  • Cheese boards: pair with sharp aged cheddar, manchego, or blue cheese alongside dried fruit

A note on flavour

Pumpkin seed butter has a pronounced, earthy character that some customers find more intense than other seed or nut butters. If you're new to it, start with a small amount and let the flavour develop. It grows on you quickly.

Smooth and earthy in flavour

The pumpkin seed butter was beautifully smooth. It was the first time I have tasted pumpkin seeds as butter, and for me the flavour was a bit strong, but that's just a personal preference. The butter itself was excellent.
