Santos Organics sources these almonds from Yunis Pty Ltd, a family almond growing business based in South Australia. The Yunis family have grown up on their almond farm - a Greek immigrant family for whom food quality has always been central. In 2003 they bought their own almond farm and adopted certified organic growing methods, reaching full certified organic status in 2006. Their almonds are grown on small family-owned farms in the Northern Adelaide Plains, Sunraysia, and Riverland regions - ideal Mediterranean-climate country for almond production.
No synthetic chemical pest control, no chemical fertilisers, and no GMO products are used at any stage of growing. Soil health is central to their farming philosophy - vibrant soil microbiology fixes nitrogen naturally from the atmosphere rather than from nitrate fertilisers, producing almonds that are rich in protein and mineral-balanced. The result is an almond with a genuine, variety-true flavour that reflects the soil it was grown in.
These almonds are also unpasteurised. Unlike many imported almonds which undergo mandatory steam or chemical pasteurisation before entering Australia, these haven't been heat-treated or chemically treated after harvest. Storage
Store well sealed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Refrigerate in warmer climates or for longer-term storage. Raw unpasteurised almonds have a shorter shelf life than treated nuts - use within 3 to 4 months of opening for best freshness and flavour.
