Single-use plastic toothbrushes take a staggering 1000 years to break down, whereas a biodegradable eco toothbrush made from a natural material like bamboo could break down in six months in a home composting system.

Bamboo is also a sustainable choice because it’s a fast-growing and self-generating plant (the average bamboo takes five years to grow compared to trees that may take up to 30 years to harvest) so deforestation isn't necessary either.

How do I dispose of a bamboo toothbrush?

Dentists recommend you replace your toothbrush regularly and a bamboo toothbrush is no different. You can prolong its life by making sure you rinse it well after each use and allowing it to dry properly.

When it’s time to dispose of your bamboo toothbrush, remove the plastic bristles with a pair of pliers or snap the entire head off before placing the bamboo handle in a composting bin. But if that’s not possible, it’s good to know that even if you throw it into landfill, it will still biodegrade in a few years.
