8 Oils, Endless Uses: A Practical Guide to Our Organic Self-Care Range

Why oils belong in your everyday routine

Organic oils are some of the most versatile staples you can keep at home. The right oil can soften skin, condition hair, enrich a meal, or freshen a room, all without synthetic ingredients or unnecessary additives.

At Santos Organics, our self-care oils range is certified organic, cold-pressed where possible, and chosen for purity and traceability. Below is a practical guide to all eight oils in the range and how to use them at home.

For Skin & Body Care

Apricot Kernel Oil 200ml

Light, fast-absorbing, and gentle. Apricot kernel oil suits most skin types and works as a facial oil, makeup remover, and post-shower body moisturiser. Its lighter texture makes it a good everyday option for warmer climates.

Try it as:

  • A morning facial oil under sunscreen
  • A natural makeup remover with a cotton pad
  • A base oil for blending with essential oils (5 drops of essential oil per 10ml apricot kernel)

Almond Oil 200ml

A classic carrier oil, mild and slightly nourishing. Almond oil works well as a body moisturiser, massage base, and hair conditioning treatment. Its mild scent and texture suit most skin types.

Try it as:

  • A post-shower body oil
  • A scalp and ends treatment for dry hair
  • A base for DIY massage blends with a few drops of essential oil

Castor Oil 200ml

Thick, dense, and surprisingly versatile. Castor oil is best known for hair, brow, and lash care, where its viscosity helps condition strands and skin. It's also used in oil cleansing routines and as a scalp mask.

Try it as:

  • A nightly brow and lash conditioner with a clean mascara wand
  • A weekly scalp mask, left in for 30 minutes before washing
  • A blend with almond or apricot oil for full-body application (castor on its own is quite thick)

For Hair & Massage

Black Sesame Oil 200ml

Rich, dense, and deeply nourishing. Black sesame oil is traditionally used in Ayurvedic body care, particularly as a warming massage oil and a conditioning treatment for hair and scalp. Its viscosity makes it slower-absorbing than apricot or almond oil, which is why it suits massage and hair masks so well. It also has a rich, nutty flavour, so a few drops can lift Asian-style noodle bowls or dressings if you'd rather use it in the kitchen.

Try it as:

  • A pre-shower hair and scalp treatment (apply, leave 20-30 minutes, then wash out)
  • A warming body massage oil, especially in cooler months
  • A finishing oil drizzled over noodles, dressings, or roasted vegetables

For Home & Household

The next three oils are concentrated essential oils. Use them sparingly, always diluted, and only for household or aromatic purposes.

Blue Gum Eucalyptus 100ml

A fresh, crisp Australian classic. Blue gum eucalyptus oil is popular in laundry rinses, linen sprays, and natural cleaning blends. A few drops in a spray bottle with water adds a clean, recognisable scent to fabrics and surfaces.

Try it in:

  • A linen spray (10 drops in 250ml water with a teaspoon of witch hazel)
  • A laundry rinse for towels and sheets
  • A diffuser blend for an open, fresh-air feel

Peppermint Oil

Sharp, bright, and unmistakable. Peppermint is widely used in DIY home blends, from natural deterrent sprays for pantries to fresh-scented surface cleaners. The 50ml size is a good starter; the 100ml suits regular household use.

Try it in:

  • A pantry deterrent spray (peppermint is widely used to discourage ants)
  • A bathroom freshener spray
  • A diffuser for an energising morning blend

Lavender Oil 50ml

Soft, floral, and one of the most-loved essential oils for any home. Lavender works beautifully in linen drawers, pillow sprays, and homemade sachets.

Try it in:

  • A pillow and linen mist (10 drops in 250ml water with a teaspoon of witch hazel)
  • A drawer sachet (a few drops on a cotton ball tucked into folded linens)
  • A diffuser blend for a calm, scented home

Storing your oils

Organic oils last longer when stored well. Keep them in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight, and tightly capped between uses. Most carrier oils (apricot, almond, castor, black sesame) last 6 to 12 months once opened. Essential oils (eucalyptus, peppermint, lavender) keep longer, often 2 to 3 years if stored properly.
