SO Biodynamic Sun-Dried Sultanas 1kg
Demeter certified biodynamic sultanas, naturally sun-dried in the Sunraysia region of Victoria. No sulphur dioxide, no oil coating, no additives. Single ingredient.
These sultanas come from Mildura Organics at Robinvale in the Sunraysia district of Victoria, where grapes have been grown since 1976. The Sunraysia region's long, hot summers and dry air create ideal conditions for natural sun-drying - the traditional method of producing sultanas before industrial drying and chemical preservation became standard.
Most commercial sultanas in Australia are dried using sulphur dioxide (220) to preserve colour and prevent browning, and coated in mineral oil or sunflower oil to prevent clumping during packaging. These sultanas use neither. They are dried in the sun until naturally sweet and concentrated, then packed without treatment. The result is a darker, more caramelised sultana with a deeper flavour than the bright yellow preserved variety - and a cleaner label: 100% biodynamic sultanas, nothing else.
Demeter biodynamic certification is the most rigorous organic certification standard available in Australia, requiring full farm ecosystem management beyond the baseline organic standard.
The 1kg bag is the everyday bulk size for households that bake regularly or use sultanas across breakfast, snacking, and cooking.

How to use them
Sultanas are one of the most versatile dried fruits in the pantry:
- Baking: scones, fruit cake, hot cross buns, anzac biscuits, banana bread, muffins, and slices
- Breakfast: stirred through porridge or overnight oats, scattered over yoghurt and granola
- Lunchboxes: a reliable, natural snack for adults and children
- Salads: scattered through green salads, grain salads, and coleslaw for natural sweetness
- Savoury cooking: added to Moroccan tagines, Indian biryanis, and Middle Eastern rice dishes where dried fruit is traditional
- Trail mix: combined with nuts, seeds, and dark chocolate
- Stewed fruit: simmered with cinnamon, apple, and orange for a simple dessert or breakfast topping
- Stuffing: mixed through bread stuffing for chicken or pork alongside herbs and pine nuts
A note on colour
These biodynamic sultanas are darker golden to amber in colour rather than bright yellow. The bright yellow colour common in commercial sultanas comes from sulphur dioxide (220) used as a preservative. Without sulphur, sultanas darken naturally during sun-drying - this is normal and a sign of an additive-free product. The flavour is deeper and more caramelised as a result.
Storage
Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Sultanas can be refrigerated in warmer months to extend freshness and prevent any moisture absorption. Use within 12 months of opening.
