Carwari Organic Unhulled Tahini 375g

$12.10

Certified organic unhulled tahini, slow stone-milled with the sesame hull left in. One ingredient, nothing added. A darker, bolder tahini for savoury cooking.

Carwari Organic Unhulled Tahini is made from whole sesame seeds with the outer hull intact. The hull gives the paste a deeper golden-brown colour, a stronger, earthier sesame flavour and a slight, pleasant bitterness. It also means more calcium and minerals than hulled tahini, which is made from seeds with the hull removed.

It’s the tahini for people who find the hulled style too mild. It holds its flavour in cooking and stands up to bold ingredients like roasted vegetables, strong spices and bitter greens.

The seeds are stone-milled slowly, a traditional, low-heat method that keeps the natural flavour of the sesame. There’s no added salt, oil, sugar or preservative. It’s naturally vegan and gluten free.

Carwari is a Sydney-based sesame specialist that has been making tahini for around 45 years.

Why people love it

  • One ingredient: certified organic unhulled sesame seeds
  • Slow stone-milled
  • Bold, earthy flavour with a slight bitterness
  • Higher in calcium than hulled tahini
  • Holds its flavour in cooking
  • No added salt, oil, sugar or preservatives
  • Vegan and gluten free
  • Made in Australia by Carwari
  • 375g jar

How to use it

  • Hummus: use alone or half and half with hulled tahini for a more robust hummus
  • Dressings and sauces: whisk with lemon juice, garlic and water for a stronger tahini dressing
  • Roasted vegetables: drizzle over cauliflower, eggplant, beetroot or sweet potato
  • Noodle and grain bowls: thin with tamari, rice vinegar and ginger
  • Savoury baking: fold into seedy crackers and tahini cookies
  • Dip: whisk with lemon and garlic for falafel, flatbread or raw vegetables

Natural separation is normal. The oil rises to the top, so stir thoroughly before each use. Storing the jar upside down makes stirring easier.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place away from light and heat. Once opened, use within a reasonable time. In warmer weather, refrigerate to slow oil separation. Shelf life is around 12 months.
