12 Practical Uses for Hydrogen Peroxide Around the Home
Some of the most nourishing and delicious foods are also the simplest.
A handful of prunes. A piece of fresh fruit. A bowl of oats. Nature has a wonderful way of providing exactly what we need, in its simplicity.
At Santos Organics, we're passionate about supporting producers who love and value quality, sustainability and real food. That's why we proudly stock Hiltona Prunes - an Australian family business producing premium certified organic prunes from the rich growing region of Mooroopna in Victoria's Goulburn Valley.
For generations, Hiltona has been growing, harvesting and naturally drying Australian plums into beautifully sweet prunes, creating a wholesome pantry staple that's every bit as delicious as it is nourishing.
These prunes are naturally gluten free, vegan, certified organic and 100% free from added sugars, preservatives, sulphur and additives. We love that they are whole prunes with pits and naturally plumper than pitted varieties. The flavour is deep, sweet and slightly jammy, with the concentrated intensity you get from fruit that's been allowed to dry properly rather than processed quickly.
Hiltona Prunes is one of Australia's leading certified organic prune growers, with a history spanning more than 40 years.
Their orchards flourish in Victoria's Goulburn Valley, an area renowned for its fertile soils, warm summers and ideal fruit-growing climate. The plums are allowed to fully ripen on the tree before being harvested at their sweetest, then gently dried to preserve their natural flavour and nutritional goodness.
The result is a soft, succulent prune with a rich caramel-like sweetness and no need for artificial colours, preservatives or added sugars.
It's this commitment to quality, together with their family-owned values and Australian-grown produce, that makes Hiltona such a natural fit and favourite at Santos Organics.
Prunes have been enjoyed around the world for centuries, not only for their naturally sweet flavour but also for their impressive nutritional profile.
They are naturally rich in:
dietary fibre
potassium
vitamin K
antioxidants and polyphenols
naturally occurring sorbitol
Together, these nutrients make prunes a wonderfully nourishing wholefood that can be enjoyed every day.
Many people know prunes for supporting healthy digestion, thanks to their unique combination of fibre and naturally occurring sorbitol. Research also suggests that regularly including prunes as part of a balanced diet may help support bone health, particularly as we age, while their antioxidants help protect the body's cells from oxidative stress.
Because they're naturally satisfying and rich in nutrients, prunes also make an excellent alternative to highly processed sweet snacks.
While digestive wellbeing is often the first benefit people associate with prunes, they're much more than that.
Their combination of fibre helps promote healthy gut bacteria, while the natural potassium content supports normal muscle and nerve function.
The antioxidants found in prunes, particularly polyphenols, are being increasingly recognised for their role in supporting healthy ageing and overall wellbeing.
It's one of those wonderful examples where a traditional wholefood continues to be appreciated by modern nutrition science.
At Santos Organics, we believe that the best foods are those that have been grown with care, processed as little as possible and produced by businesses that genuinely value the land they farm on.
Hiltona shares these values.
Their commitment to Australian certified organic farming, careful fruit growing and producing wholesome foods without unnecessary additives aligns beautifully with our philosophy of supporting real food and local producers wherever possible.
We're proud to support a family-owned Australian business that continues to produce such beautiful fruit.
Prunes are incredibly versatile and can be enjoyed well beyond the traditional snack.
Try them:
stirred through warm porridge
chopped into homemade muesli
blended into smoothies for natural sweetness
added to slow-cooked tagines and casseroles
paired with nuts for an afternoon snack
enjoyed alongside dairy or vegan cheeses on a grazing platter.
A comforting, old-fashioned favourite that's just as delicious today.
Ingredients
250g Hiltona Prunes
2 cups filtered water

Place everything into a saucepan and bring to a gentle simmer. Cook for around 15–20 minutes until the prunes are beautifully soft and the liquid has reduced slightly. Allow to cool.
